Join Dorothy and friends on a magical journey to the Emerald City! The Hong Kong Singers are holding auditions for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) version of The Wizard of Oz, which will be performed in May 2009 at the Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre. This version is very much based on (but not identical to) the Judy Garland film.

* Bring a recent size passport size photograph of yourself

* If you are auditioning for a principal role, prepare a song of your choice (please bring your own sheet music) and a song from the show for the character you will be auditioning for. Those auditioning for the role of Dorothy MUST sing the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

* If you are auditioning for the adult chorus, prepare a song of your choice (please bring your own sheet music).

* If you are auditioning for the children’s chorus, you will be taught a song from the show during the audition

Please note the lower age limit for this production is 9. Those auditioning for the children’s chorus should have some singing and/or stage experience as the Munchkins have to sing and dance to a fairly high standard. Some height restrictions will apply for the children’s chorus.

Please wear suitable attire and footwear to the auditions.

WHO - Wordybird Theatre Company

WHAT - MISERY by Stephen King (adapted for the stage by Simon Moore).

Best-selling romantic novelist Paul Sheldon retires each winter to the snow-covered hills of Colorado to write another work featuring his beautiful heroine Misery Chastain. Driving whilst inebriated, he encounters severe weather and his car goes off the road. Instead of awakening in hospital he comes to in a filthy, dilapidated farmhouse, isolated from the outside world by the blizzard, occupied by the schizophrenic Annie, his “Number One Fan”. She insists she will nurse him, refusing to tell anyone his whereabouts. His crushed legs mean he is virtually a prisoner, dependant on Annie for pain relief. When she discovers his new novel does not feature Misery she forces him to destroy the manuscript and write another. Thus begins Paul’s descent into a living hell. Annie withholds pain relief, inflicts humiliation and degradation, forcing Paul, like Scheherazade, to write a new chapter every day simply to stay alive.

NEEDED -

Responsibilities: appear as a fully costumed (non-face) dragon character to pose for photographs with visitors. One will appear in the costume, while the other will wear khakis , a polo, and clean all-white athletic footwear. This person will guide the character around the booth and help with the costume.

WHAT - Audition Notice for The Laramie Project

Looking Glass Productions are proud to announce open auditions for their next show; The Laramie Project, by the Tectonic Theatre Project.

In October 1998 a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Combining these interviews with their own personal experiences, Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

ROLES - The cast of the show will consist of 7 – 10 actors, with each actor playing multiple roles in the play. As such, we are looking for versatile actors and actresses who can show a wide range, and who can switch between multiple characters on the fly. Casting is open to all ages and ethnicities. American accents are preferred.
